The area around Bagan has numerous Temples and Pagodas all across the plain. There are so many one could not see all of them in a month. A highlight is viewing them from a small mound at sunset. They are in various states of repair following earthquakes and general aging. They also vary and ornateness.

Magical, especially early morning and sunset. Definitely a must see in Myanmar. The temples are amazing and overwhelming in a good way. I would highly recommend a guide who can take you not only to various important temples, but local markets (which I loved). We also took a horse and cart pre sunset, he took us off the beaten track through a village and to a temple that unfortunately had been destroyed by the earthquake in 2016, but we were able to climb to the top and look across the plain full of temples to the river. Wonderful

If you like heritage then don't miss Bagan. I explored it in June to make it with less tourists (even not many local visitors) so that I can explore without being rush. The temples offered different style, atmosphere. Make sure you visit the group of small temples as they offered the different stories.
